We’re delighted to share that we have donated our car park on Europa Way in Norwich to charity for the 17th year in a row, in order to support the hard work of the West Norwich Lions Club.
Since 2005, we have allowed Norwich City Football Club fans to park at our site on match days in return for a small fee. The site was initially managed by the Norwich Lions Club, which then passed the site over to the local Scouts Group and recently to the West Norwich Lions Club.
Over the years, many of our neighbours have joined the scheme and also allow fans to park on their sites for charity. In total, there are approximately 70 spaces at the site, which are sold for £5 each when Norwich City FC play at home. Approximately £85,000 has been raised at our site in the past 13 years, which has been used to make grants and donations to local people and organisations.
The West Norwich Lions Club manages the entire process on match days, with volunteers ensuring that vehicles are parked legally and safely while collecting donations. To ensure it’s a fair system, the car parks are run on a first-come-first-served basis, but they always ensure there’s enough parking for staff when matches are held during the working week.
Says Barry Sheldrake, Car Parking Lead at West Norwich Lions: “We appreciate the opportunity to raise much-needed funds for groups in our area. It’s a simple but effective way to give back to the communities in which we live and we’re grateful to BDH Tullford and other organisations for their continued support.”
Adds BDH Tullford Director David Hutchins: “It’s a pleasure to be able to support local causes in this way. The Lions Clubs handle every detail of the match-day, making it easy for football fans to use the site, while also making donations to charity.
“We’re so pleased we can help!”
